Ralph welcomed guests and thanked the hospitality team for the
Secretary / Minutes:The
proposed minutes for the July
2014 General Membership Meeting will be on the SHGC website for review within
the week on the next scheduled meeting.
A motion to approve the JUNE 2014
minutes was presented by Lisa Smith and seconded by Gerri Yerkes.
The minutes of the JUNE 2014 General Membership Meeting were
Pat Gilliland reports our current balance is $3082.98
Geri Yerkes reports 87 members.
The board members will discuss the decision to get involved with the “Little
Free Library” and report back to the General members in November.
Field trips were discussed – Sandy Huff proposed an “on your own”
field trip.There will be a big succulent and cactus sale at
the Botanical Gardens at USF on Saturday, Aug 30, anyone that wants to
carpool with Sandy can contact her personally. In lieu of the October 15th General meeting, this day will be set
aside for a SHGC field trip.Those
interested in going to Selby Gardens in Sarasota, by way of carpooling can sign
up at this upcoming meeting. Final details will be given at the September 17th
Please start thinking ahead for the winter field trip in February
2015– proposed trip will be a two day adventure in Gainsville.In order for Carol Zieres to start the
process of booking the bus and a hotel – the board will need a firm commitment
from members – in the form of a non-refundable deposit. (To be announced at the
November19th 2014 General
Nancy McClelland has agreed
to be the Publicity Chairperson for the SHGC.Thank you Nancy! Still looking for a chairperson for the Garden Awards.(Each of us can keep an eye on a special
garden from our neighborhood to give as a contact to help this person out!)
Elsa Soto is in need of 4” plastic pots.Please contact her if you have any to share.
Carol Zieres shared information about the SH Historical Society’s
“Old Fashioned Barbecue”
On Sunday September 21th. Tickets are $10 for a barbecue meal,
entertainment, music and fun!– proceeds from this event will go towards
Historical markers being placed around our wonderful little town to inform
people of its rich history.Tickets can
be purchased at the Museum.
Our next General Membership meeting is AUGUST 20, 2014 at the SH Museum
This meeting features
members “PLANT EXCHANGE” – Remember how it works-
Bring a nice healthy plant to share.The earlier you come, the better – you’ll
receive a number to pick a new plant for yourself.(The early bird gets the worm – so to
speak!!!)This is a nice way to expand
your gardens without any cost!

topic will be on Propagation
INTRODUCE and WELCOME SPEAKERS:
Nessie Johnson and Cathy DeFelice from the Edible Garden shared
and showcased “Edible Summer Perennial plants”.They have a plant nursery that specializes in sub-tropical edible plants
that grow well in central Florida.Nessie and Cathy are certified Permaculture Designers and offer design
consultations, implementations, workshops and cooking demonstrations.
